As the world of social media continues to grow and grow so do the amount of tools available to the P.R professional in order to get the most from this resource. These tools include websites such as HootSuite, Talkwheel and Commun.it.
HootSuite is a great tool that is currently being used by many companies, it is similar to another site known as "Tweetdeck". HootSuite allows the user to monitor multiple social networking sites at one once. The user can post the same message from HootSuite to various profiles at the click of a button, for example if the user wants to post a message on twitter and facebook he can send it from HootSuite and the message will appear on both websites. HootSuite also allows the user to schedule posts. This function can be very useful as part of a social media campaign, for example if you want to schedule posts to be released at certain points in your campaign you can schedule them from HootSuite and they will be released at the designated times, saving the user time and making sure the posts are being released on when the user wants them to be.
Another tool that can be used by the P.R professional is Communi.it. Commun.it is a website that can be used in tandem with the social networking site "Twitter", it allows the user to improve the way that they can manage their Twitter profile. It enables the user to identify and to focus on the people they are attempting to engage with the most, for example potential new customers and other followers. This is a great tool as the user can now streamline their "tweets" so they can get the most from their online activities and hopefully gain more followers as a result.
Another web tool that can be utilised as part of the social media revolution is that of Talkwheel. Talkwheel involves the user uniting their brand allowing fans to communicate across various different social media sites in real time. It allows the user to engage more with fans which in turn will help to increase followers.
These tools are just three of the many that are now available to use in conjunction with social media.
The burgeoning P.R professional should use these tools as part of a their social media campaign to achieve maximum results.
By taking advantage of the likes of HootSuite a P.R professionals job can be made easier and can save time, and as the saying goes,"time is money!"

Sports and On-line Communications.
One of the areas where on-line communications has had a major impact is in the sporting arena. Whether its sports clubs or star athletes communicating with their followers through social media, enabling fans to keep up to date with results over the internet or by releasing on-line press releases regarding the latest sporting developments.
The majority of today's star athletes are active "tweeters", with many of them communicating with their large fan bases through twitter. This allows their fans to connect with the athlete as they divulge information about their day to day life's or to comment on the latest sporting developments. Some athletes are more prolific "tweeters" than others, for example the English soccer player, Joey Barton, is renowned for his outspoken views which he shares on twitter. Barton's tweets have regularly attracted attention from the media and some have garnered criticism from fellow players and managers which has led to him known more for his "tweeting" than his soccer career.
With more and more athletes using social media, their clubs or managers are now urging them to be extremely cautious about the information they share and the comments they divulge over the internet. The last thing any manager wants is controversy surrounding an athlete which could distract them from their performance. An example of this is Sunderland soccer club manager urging Irish international and Sunderland player, James McClean, to delete his twitter account in the wake of a number of controversial tweets from the players account.
Sports clubs also utilise on-line communications as part of their Public Relations activities. They can use social media to promote match fixtures, to provide injury updates, to give information on players they are signing and other information which may be associated with the sports club. By using social media to convey such messages the sports club are able to reach the large majority of their fans, it also allows them to interact directly with fans, as the fan can reply to a news update via twitter or facebook.
As the world of social media grows and grows we will see more and more sports stars and clubs revealing information via social media. Who knows where it will end? Will we see players being signed to new clubs via twitter?
We will have to wait and see, one things for sure though social media and on-line communication is now a major part of Public Relations in sport!

The Social media revolution!
Hi everyone!
Today I am going to be discussing social media and how it is changing the way we communicate both socially and in the world of business.
Social media involves sharing thoughts, information and communicating with others over the internet. There an astonishing amount of social media sites available today, these include twitter, facebook, linkedin, youtube and many more!
The use of social media has eclipsed traditional methods of communication such as letter writing, phonecalls and to an extent even e-mail. There are a number of reasons for this, for example there are a such a variety of sites that users can engage with, as well as the global reach sites such as facebook have which means a person can easily communicate with friends and relatives on the the other side of the planet almost instantly.
Many people now have relationships with people they have never met through social media, this represents some of the risks associated with social media, information displayed on social media sites is readily available and a minority of users can use this information for illegal purposes.
We all know how social media can be used by individuals to keep in contact with and make new friends, but are we aware of the extent that social media is being utilised by businesses? More and more businesses and companies are now using social media to interact with their customers through facebook and twitter etc. It provides an excellent way to garner customers views on a product as the customer can give feedback on the companies facebook or twitter page. Companies can also gather a large amount of customer information on social media sites through surveys and on-line questionnaires.
As we learn more about social media we will begin to understand the extent of its reach and rewards its use can provide businesses but for now just watch this clip below describing the social media revolution thus far.
Thanks for reading.
